Goals:This course is a mathematics course focusing on the mathematics needed for K-8 teaching. One main goal, of course, is to acquire a solid knowledge of elementary mathematics. But the course also spends time developing "Teacher knowledge" for teaching mathematics, including: (i) how to
present the material in simple, clear ways, (ii) the appropriate sequential order for developing mathematics skills, and (iii) what the students will
find difficult and what errors they are likely to make, and (iv) how each topic helps advance the mathematical level of the students.

Prerequisites: Math 103, 110, or 116, or placement into calculus, and a declared major in the Elementary Teaching Certification Program.

Texts: Six books are used in the course (they can be purchased individually or bundled together). The textbook serves as a guide to five actual elementary school textbooks.

Course format and Grading: are explained in the Math 201 Syllabus
