The Windcheetah fenders are very nice, but for winter riding I want to use bigger tires, and my WC fenders are designed for the Continental tires and don't accommodate bigger, wider tires without a lot of modifying. I thought I would show you how I mounted PlanetBike Freddy Fenders (they cost about $15 or $16 each for the rear fenders.) I wanted full fenders in front so that the slush wouldn't come off the front wheel and splash my legs and feet and also come back at me so I mounted rear fenders in front. I start with a strip of aluminum from the hardware store, ¾ by 1/8. I bend it with my bare hands and drill a 5/16 inch hole and also an 11/64 in hole that I then tap with a 5mm standard (.8mm pitch) tap. Tapping the hole wasn't necessary but it just made it easier to handle. I then use a hack saw and cut the adaptor to length, and also make it a little narrower so the wheel doesn't rub on it. I then put a 5mm screw into the 5mm hole. Here is the adaptor, with the piece of aluminum that gave birth to the adaptor:

This adaptor is ready to install on the Windcheetah under the nut that holds the front wheel in place. The two outside fender struts are held by the 5mm screw and a washer and nut. The two inside struts from the fender attach where the regular Windcheetah fenders attach. I use the same screw and use a washer and nut for each inside fender strut:

So here is my Windcheetah ready for a nice winter ride:

A nice feature of the PlanetBike fenders is that you can remove the fender from the struts by loosening plastic nuts. So that means you can change a tire or innertube with no extra tools required. You might have noticed that I extended the fenders in front a little bit with some pieces of coroplast.
