What is Math Enrichment

“If you are enthusiastic about learning and determined to earn that 4.0 you feel you deserve. If you are ready to dedicate your time to learning math, the Math Enrichment Program is waiting for you! The Math Enrichment Program offers outstanding teaching assistants who are willing to devote their time and effort into enhancing the individual learning of each and every student. What’s even better, is that there are 2 teaching assistants for each section. Instead of working out all your difficulties with math at home, you have access to twice as many office hours and more class time. The Math Enrichment Program will help put your mind at ease when thinking of the fear you may have when it comes to math. The Math Enrichment Program can only benefit you. So what are you waiting for?” -TA Sara “I have had trouble with math since I was in grade school. Math Enrichment at MSU has helped me understand concepts I could never seem to grasp before, and for the first time made me feel like I’m succeeding in math. The normal sections, which I have also taken, never could do that for me.” -J. Potvin “This class provides you with many handouts, extra notes, and explanations of what you are learning.” -M. McCormick “I believe Math Enrichment is a useful tool for students that may otherwise struggle in Math. As a senior, I look back at my last few years and believe that for many this type of class setting could be a bridge from high school to college math. If I’d known about the program four years ago I would have used it. We’re suppose to be held responsible for our work and actions. This program allows, to an extant, some one to look over our shoulder.” -L. Maki Facts Each semester, the Enrichment Program offers a few sections in the entry-level mathematics courses -- MTH 1825, MTH 103, MTH 110 (spring only), and MTH 124 (fall only). To enroll in an Enrichment section, you must acquire an override (see How to Enroll). To enroll in MTH 103 or MTH 110 you must either place into that course or have completed MTH 1825 with a grade of at least 2.0. To enroll in MTH 124, you must either place into that course or have completed MTH 103 with a grade of at least 2.0. Features
The Math Enrichment Program was founded by a concerned group of academic advisors and mathematics professors. They, along with the graduate and undergraduate assistants currently involved in the program, see a definite need for a pro-active program for those who might have difficulty in the entry-level math courses at MSU. |
