TRANSPORTATION

BY CAR

From Detroit:
Detroit to Mackinaw City is 5 hours via I-75 North to exits 337, 338 or 339. Travel time includes a 15 minute ferry ride to Mackinac Island.

From Chicago:
Chicago to Mackinaw City is 8 hours via I-94 East passing Michigan City. Continue East until you reach I-196 (Exit 34). Go Northeast on I-196 passing by Holland. Go North on US-131 to MI-55. Go East on MI-55 to US-27. Go North on US-27 to I-75 North. Go North on I-75 to Mackinaw City. Travel time includes a 15 minute ferry ride to Mackinac Island.

Shepler's Ferry to Mackinac Island

This service is included in the registration fee. It is very important that you inform us immediately if your date of arrival and/or departure changes from your registration information. Your name will be on a list at both the Mackinaw City dock and the St. Ignace dock so be sure you check-in. If your name is not on the list, you will have to pay at the ticket counter and the fee is not reimbursable.

At the ferry docks, your luggage will be tagged and sent directly to Mission Point Resort. You will be given one claim ticket per bag for retrieval at the resort's bell stand.

Once on Mackinac Island, Mission Point Resort's friendly dock porters will ensure that your luggage is sent directly to the hotel, leaving you free to leisurely make your way to the hotel. Catch the Mission Point Shuttle located adjacent to the docks ($4.00 per person) or if you prefer, enjoy a 10 minute scenic stroll to the resort.

Flights arrive daily at Pellston Airport, located approximately 12 miles south of Mackinaw City, from Detroit Metro, Chicago O-Hare, and Minneapolis St. Paul Airports.

NorthwestAirlines offers flights to Pellston Airport (airport code PLN) from most major cities. Either the Mackinaw Shuttle (888-349-8294) or the Wolverine Stagecoach (800-825-1450), located at Pellston Airport, will bring you and your luggage right to the boat docks after your flight. Mackinaw Shuttle, located at Pellston Airport, also provides services to and from Traverse City's Cherry Capitol Airport (airport code TVC) with carriers Northwest, Delta and United.

It is highly recommended that you contact either the Mackinaw Shuttle or the Wolverine Stagecoach and make a reservation for transportation from Pellston Airport to Shepler's Ferry Dock and also for transportation on your return trip from Shepler's Ferry Dock to Pellston Airport.

RENTAL CAR

Rental Car is not recommended as cars can not be taken to Mackinac Island.

ISLAND BIKING

You may bring your own bicycle on the island or you may rent one at Mission Point Resort. The charge for transporting your bicycle via Shepler's Ferry is $7.50 round-trip and includes a bike tag that also serves as your temporary bike license while on the island. Bike rental begins at $5/hr and will increase with the type of bicycle rented and the duration of time used.
