TEXT:  J. Marsden and A. Tromba, Vector Calculus, 6th ed. A tentative schedule of topics and lecture notes is on the Course Page.

GRADES:  Based on:
Daily Quiz100
Weekly HW100
Midterm exam  100
Final exam100
Total400 points

Tentative Grade Scale:   ≥90% = 4.0 ,   ≥85% = 3.5 ,   ≥ 80% = 3.0 ,   ≥75% = 2.5 ,   ≥70 = 2.0 ,   ≥ 60 = 1.0 .

DAILY HOMEWORK & QUIZZES:  I will not collect daily homework, but it is an essential part of the course. It is the crucial step in learning, and quiz and test problems will be difficult to impossible unless you have already done the corresponding homework problems.

There will be a Quiz in the first 5-10 minutes of each class, with questions based on the previous lecture's homework. I will assume you have done the problems, so that you can do a similar quiz problem quickly.

There will be approximately 40 quizzes, each counting 2 or 3 course points. Missed quizzes will count as zero, and I will not normally give makeups. However, I will add 5 points free (out of 100) to the quiz total to allow for a couple of absences.

Quiz grades usually track exam grades closely: if you fail several quizzes, you are in trouble, and should arrange with me to get help.

WEEKLY HOMEWORK:  Each week, I will assign a more substantial problem or a proof to be handed in the following Mon. You may also hand in problems marked Extra Credit. Your work can be hand written, but I recommend LaTeX, available free: Example: source, finished.

MIDTERM EXAM:  Tentatively Wed Oct 17, in the lecture hour.

FINAL EXAM:  Wed Dec 14, 2022 at 5:45-7:45pm in our usual classroom EB 3400.
