Troop 272's 2004 Charter Year
Troop 272's second charter year began with a troop meeting and a Troop Program Planning Conference on Friday-Saturday, January 9-10, 2004. The Patrol Leaders Council did a great job planning a program for the year.
On Friday-Saturday, February 21-22, 2004, Troop 272 conducted its second annual outing to the Pokagon State Park Toboggan Run. This was Michael's first campout with Troop 272.
The month of March was devoted to fundraising. We conducted a popcorn sale on Tuesday, March 9 and a bottle drive on Saturday, March 20.
In April, we conducted our second annual Scouting for Food drive. We distributed flyers for this drive on Tuesday, April 13 and returned to collect donated items on Saturday, April 17, 2004.
We conducted a Court of Honor on the following Tuesday, April 20.
At the beginning of May, Scoutmaster McCarthy received a phone call from Aaron's father informing Scoutmaster McCarthy that Aaron had decided to join Troop 272, and inviting Troop 272 to conduct a Webelos Crossover ceremony for Aaron at Pack 700's recognition ceremony on Friday, May 14. Scoutmaster McCarthy, Assistant Scoutmaster Gary Cunningham, and Tenderfoot Scout Michael participated in this crossover.
Immediately following the Webelos Crossover ceremony, Troop 272 conducted an outing to the Mawanjidiwin District Spring Camporall. Troop 272 won two awards at this camporee, a patrol award and an individual award, to Chris, for the caber toss event.
Michael Hannah progressed to the rank of Tenderfoot at his Board of Review on the following Tuesday, May 18.
On Tuesday, June 8, we conducted a very successful Troop Open House around the theme of Orienteering.
Jeannette Hensler, a Webelos Den Leader of Pack 640, attended with 9 of her 11 Webelos Scouts. Nathan and Jacob also attended this event. Being very impressed with our troop's organization of this event, they both decided to join Troop 272.
Steven completed his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project during the week of June 14-18, 2004:

In July, on the weekend of July 9-11, Troop 272 conducted an outing to Lake Michigan. This was Aaron and Nathan's first outing with Troop 272.
On July 20, we conducted our second Court of Honor for the year. Michael was recognized for achieving the rank of Tenderfoot.
Steven sustained his Eagle Scout Board of Review on August 3, 2004, exactly one month after his 18th birthday. The Eagle Scout credentials arrived from the National Council of the BSA at the Chief Okemos Council Service Center on August 11, 2004. We still need to schedule a Court of Honor to celebrate Steven's achievement.
Chris received approval for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project from the Mawanjidiwin District on Thursday, August 26. We pray for his success in completing this project.
