A non-linear locally finite simple group with a p-group as centralizer

Let p be a prime. We construct an infinite locally finite simple group which has a
element whose centralizer is a p-group. We also construct an infinite locally finite
simple groups in which the centralizer of every non-trivial element is
virtually locally solvable.
