TEXT: Calculus by Thomas' Calculus; 11th Edition. Bring yourtext book to class.

HOUR TESTS: There will be four (4) 100 point hour tests and one 30minute quiz. They are presently scheduled for Monday, January 29, Friday,February 23, Friday, March 30, and Wednesday, April 25 with the quiz scheduledlater. You will be given one sheet of paper containing the questions. Writeyour solutions on paper you bring and turn them in with the sheet of questionsat the end of the exam time. In order to allow extra time for the hour tests, cometo class on those days five minutes early and be prepared to stay five minuteslate. Your graded exam will be returned to you no later than the Fridayafter the test is given. The number of points out of 100 (or 50 in the case ofthe quiz) that you received will be written on your paper. If you have anyquestions regarding the grading of your exam, return it to me immediately afterthe class meeting it is returned stating what you wish to have reevaluated. Therewill be no make-up exams. If you miss an hour test or the quiz, your gradewill be determined by the remaining exam scores and the uniform final exam.

FINAL EXAM: The final exam, worth 200 points, will be give on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to noon in a room to be announced later. Anystudent having another final scheduled during at that time or having two otherfinal exams scheduled on Tuesday may take the make-up final exam, which will begiven elsewhen, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. If youqualify for the make-up final exam, in order to take it you must fill out arequest in Wells Hall, A 212 no later than ???,  and provide a recent copy of your schedule asdocumentation. Students taking the make-up final exam MUST have a pictured ID. Underno circumstance will the final exam be given to anyone at any other times thatthese. Your exam papers are your property. You may pick up your final examduring the Fall Semester, 2007 at my office. If you do not, it will be recycledat the end of the Fall Semester. However, once a final exam is picked up andtaken from my office, no grade change is possible.

GRADES: To convert your score on an hour test to a grade, use thefollowing scale:

90-100 = 4.0; 80 - 89 = 3.0; 65-79 = 2.0; 55-64 = 1.0; 0-54 = 0.0

To determine your grade going into the final exam, total the scores of yourfour hour tests and the quiz. Then compare the sum to the following scale:

360 - 400 = 4.0; 340 - 359 = 3.5; 320 - 339 = 3.0; 290 - 319 = 2.5; 260 - 289= 2.0 240 - 259 = 1.5; 220 - 239 = 1.0; 0 - 219 = 0.0

Your course grade will be computed by adding your final exam score to thetotal already computed and comparing that sum to a scale based on 600 points.Adjustments will be made when the situation warrants it subject to theconditions stated in ATTENDANCE and HOMEWORK below.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance will be taken at every class. If you miss five(5) or more class meetings, your grade will be determined by your total scorewith no consideration given for special circumstances. You are expected to cometo class unless you are too ill to attend. Much of the time in class will bespent elaborating on text material, reviewing previous material and explainingconcepts in several different ways. It is important that you are there andattentive every day. In Tuesday's recitation classes new material will often bepresented , but there will be ample time to askquestions about assigned problems that were not answered earlier. In many ofthe recitation classes new material will be presented.

HOMEWORK: You are expected to do your homework on a daily basis. Itwill be collected and evaluated by the teaching assistant, but not used as partof your course grade. However, failure to hand in homework assignments in a timelyfashion will result in your grade being determined by your total score againwith no consideration given for special circumstances. Moreover if yourperformance on a given exam is under par, I may require you to submit homeworkrefusing to grade you next exam if you don't comply.

CALCULATORS AND COMPUTERS: Use of calculators is permitted andencouraged when doing homework problems. They will not be allowed on the hourtests or on the final exam.

CELLULAR PHONES: It would be best not to bring a cellular phone toclass, but if you do, make sure it is turned off.

ACADEMIC HONESTY: The homework you submit must be your own. You mayget help from others and from the Math Learning Center, but don't copy someone else's the work and submit it as yours. When takinga test, don't attempt to copy the work from another student's paper and don'trefer to any material you have brought with you. You are on your honor to abideby these regulations. If you know of a violation, please bring it to myattention.

Before each test you shouldreread your class notes, the text material covered and review problem solvingtechniques. After the graded test is returned to you, it is your obligation tolearn how to solve each test question you missed. If your test grade isbelow 65, then you must hand in complete solutions to all of the test questionstwo class meetings after the test is returned.
