- iterative methods for nonlinear systems
- numerical interpolation and integration
- approximation of functions
- Fourier series and fast Fourier transform
- some other main-stream topics
Required Textbook:
- K. E. Atkinson, An Introduction to Numerical Analysis, John Wiley & Sons, 1989.
Recommended Supplemental Textbook:
- J. Stoer and R. Bulirsch, Introduction to Numerical Analysis.
Homework and Projects
- This will be a computationally intensive course, including programming and written assignments.
- The computational problems will utilize MATLAB, but other languages (Fortran, C, C++, etc) are
acceptable as well.
- Homework due in class. No late homework accepted.
Exams:
- One midterm exam and one final exam. The final exam is comprehensive.
Grading based on:
- Class participation (10%), assignments (30%), the midterm (20%), the final exam (40%).
