Conference Description

The conference focuses on mathematical and computational challenges for wave-related direct, inverse and imaging problems.

We will use the occasion to recognize William W. Symes for his contribution to mathematics of inverse problems and to the lives of many students, postdocs, collaborators and colleagues he has worked with throughout his inspiring career.

Venue

The workshop will be held at the Michigan State University Kellogg Conference Center.

Travel

The local airport is Lansing Airport (Code: LAN), and the major airport hub near the Lansing area is Detroit Airport (Code: DTW). Many flights to LAN are either from DTW or Chicago.

If you are going through Detroit, then you may either fly to LAN, or rent a car, or take the Michigan Flyer shuttle bus from Detroit to East Lansing. The Michigan Flyer shuttle bus terminal at East Lansing is close to the Kellogg Center where the conference is going to be held; this bus has wifi on board. The Kellogg Center provides courtesy pick-up and drop-off service at LAN if you stay in the Kellogg Conference Center; please call them at (517) 432-4000 and (800) 875-5090 to make such an arrangement if you fly to LAN.

There are two other nearby airports: the Grand Rapids airport (Code: GRR) and the Flint Airport (Code: FNT). They are all in one-hour driving distance to East Lansing. If you choose to use one of these two airports, then you need to rent a car.

Accommodation

We recommend participants staying in the MSU Kellogg Conference Center. You may make hotel reservation by directly contacting the Kellogg Center and letting them know you are attending the Symes Conference; the Kellogg Center phone numbers are (517) 432-4000 and (800) 875-5090. A block of rooms are on reserve until March 9, 2015. After that, there is no guarantee that there will be rooms available.

Registration

The registration is free. Graduate students and postdocs are strongly encouraged to participate in this conference. If there are any questions regarding registration, please contact Jianliang Qian (qian@math.msu.edu).

The Registration Form is here for download.

Support

There is some limited financial support available, on a competitive basis, for participating graduate students and postdocs.

To apply for support, prospective students and postdocs must:

Both the letter and project description should be submitted via email to qian@math.msu.edu with the subject line ``Wave Conference request for support for FIRST AND LAST NAME''. Applications are due by Feburary 20th, 2015 and notification of support will be given on March 1st, 2015.

Funding

The major funding is provided by the National Science Foundation.
